City flowers Growinc Care (Rotterdam) During some months Ikonomopoulou took pictures of outer wall gardens that citizens of Rotterdam individually take care of and offer tp the public space. At the City Art Center presents the installation City flowers of cut out prints as flowers and creates her own garden in the shape of climbing plants. In a serie of other works details of the outer wall gardens, first names of their owners and names of the plants become all together a lace of cut out paper. Growing care has been presented before in Athens Growing Care (Athens) and similar projects are planed during 2009 in Thessaloniki(GR) and Queretaro (MX) |

kunst van de dag Connections is door Arno Kramer gekozen tot kunst van de dag 18 januari op de site Het “spel” met beeld en woord is door de, van oorsprong Griekse Maria Ikonomopoulou tot grote hoogte van sereniteit verheven. Niets is er in feite storend aan haar werk, ook al is het nog zo technisch ingewikkeld gemaakt met het knippen van die patronen. In veel werk zijn het twee personen die tot een soort ontmoeting proberen te komen. Toch is altijd een ingreep van de kunstenaar die het romantische, dan wel verstilde beeld, soms verstoord. Weer niet op een ruwe of radicale manier, maar subtiel, door tussen personen delen te borduren met rood garen en zo die afstand, die er toch geestelijk wel altijd enigszins is, te benadrukken. Dit werk ‘Connection” is een print op geknipt papier en je denkt eerst dat achter een velours van motieven een persoon zich wil bevrijden. De symmetrische vormen die zijn geknipt bieden geen enkele uitgang, al lijkt er ruimte in het knipsel. Hier tast iemand naar iets dat er niet schijnt te zijn. In al het reiken ligt ook het onmogelijke en de berusting. Dat leidt dan allemaal tot een verstild en evenwichtig kunstwerk. Dat eigenlijk raadselachtig is in zijn helderheid, als je dat al zo kunt zeggen. Volgens de kunstenaar zelf gaat het in het meeste werk vooral over ervaringen met het individuele en het collectieve. Zo maakte ze, van in papier uitgeknipte namen van mensen, een waterval van wit die over een persoon heen kan vloeien. Dan valt de titel Synergie voor de tentoonstelling en ben je bij een veelgebruikt en dikwijls ook gemakkelijk gebruikt woord, en weten we wat er mee wil worden gezegd. Maar van oorsprong is het woord bedoeld om de samenwerking tussen Kerk en Staat aan te geven. En dan staat er op diezelfde bladzijde in het woordenboek, vlak onder Synergie, Synesthesie en dan denk ik, ja dat past eigenlijk helemaal bij het werk van Maria Ikonomopoulou, want ineens hebben we het over min of meer constante verbindingen tussen waarnemingen en voorstellingen uit verschillende zintuigsferen.
