Demolitions . group show . 2025

Since 2019 a refugee residence from 1922 in Chalandri and now the studio of visual artist Panajotis Daramaras is the start point for contemporary artists who have been attempting to explore and reclaim public space through visual arts activities and temporary installations during a week every summer.
The theme for this year's 6th exhibition of +oikismos curated by Panajotis Daramaras, Ira Papadopoulou, Dimitris Chalatsis and Nikos Kazeros is Demolitions (Chalandri 27 June - 1 July). It focuses on the act of demolition through its metaphorical and literal meaning, exploring its symbolic, social and political dimension.
From the construction sites of modern cities to the violent clearing of sites, lands and monuments, demolition functions as a radical gesture of reconfiguration of space and collective experience. Is it destruction or liberation? A new beginning or the absolute erasure?
Participating artists capture, intervene and reimagine the concept of demolition through ephemeral in situ installations, performances, videos and talks, which will take place in the public space of the Chalandri district, the parks, the streets, the courtyards of refugee houses from 1922 etc.

Fragments is the result of a failure, a destruction, a demolition. The result of attempts at unsuccessful projects, which nevertheless claim their place among us, with fragments that they seem to be part of an unknown alphabet.

Fragment - Net are chalk drawings inspired by a net pattern. Something that restricts us, traps us but can also protect us. It is this dual identity that interests me.
The chalk drawing on various outdoor surfaces, in various sizes is ephemeral. As I think it has to be in the public space. After the rains it will fade and allow something else to be created in its place.
